Hosting an In-Home Concert
What Are the Costs?
You have two options for hosting an in-home concert:
Donation-Based (Most Popular)
- No cost to host.
- You provide seating and optional refreshments.
- Guests are invited to give an open donation—they contribute any amount they wish.
- 100% of donations go directly to the performer.
Fixed Price
- If you’d rather not do donations, you can pay a flat concert fee.
- Contact Kevin for a personalized quote.
The Host’s Responsibilities
Invitations: Send 2–3 emails prior to the concert. (A ready-to-use template is available to make this simple.)
For Donation Concerts:
- Encourage guests to come expecting to give a donation.
- Place a donation basket where guests will see it as they arrive or leave.
- Make brief donation announcements at the start, intermission, and end. If you're shy about making announcements, contact Kevin to brainstorm some options.
Planning Made Simple
- Once a date and time are set, create a Facebook event, Evite, or simple email invite.
- Make it a potluck if you’d like—guests love bringing dishes to share!
- Relax—it’s really just like inviting friends over for a special evening of music.
Concert Schedule
Performance: Two sets of 30–35 minutes, with a 10–15 minute intermission.
Timing: If the concert starts at 8:00, invite guests for 7:00–7:30 so there’s time to mingle.
Invitations & RSVP Tips
- Send invites about 6-8 weeks in advance, with a few reminders.
- Email is more reliable than Facebook RSVPs.
- Include in your invite that space is limited and reservations are required.
- A short explanation of the in-home concert concept.
- Donation info (for donation-based concerts).
- Links to music samples (YouTube, website).
- Expect a few last-minute cancellations—overbooking slightly or keeping a waitlist helps ensure a full house.
- Equipment
- Indoors: Usually, no amplification is needed. Guests enjoy the intimacy of unplugged acoustic sound.
- If needed: Minimal sound reinforcement can be provided, kept simple and unobtrusive.
Outdoor Shows
- Backyards, patios, or driveways work beautifully.
- Outdoor concerts allow for more musicians, creating a bigger sound.
- Guests can bring their own lawn chairs, food, and drinks.
- Consider a canopy/cover for shade or evening lighting.
- Light sound amplification.
- Giving neighbors advance notice as a courtesy.
Hosting an in-home concert is fun, easy, and memorable
—for you, your friends, and your community.
